Man United seemingly view Jean-Clair Todibo as the long-term answer to their centre-back problems.
Defensively, Manchester United have been a mess to start this season, which is in stark contrast to that area of the field last term.
The Lisandro Martinez injury blow is undoubtedly a factor. Losing a player like that, for multiple months, will affect any side in the world.
The other half of that partnership, Raphael Varane, cannot even get out on the field right now. Jonny Evans is preferred as things stand, which feels bizarre to type, but there we are. He’s also had his injury problems.
CaughtOffside believe that Varane could be sold to a Saudi Pro League club in January. Though regardless of whether that happens, United need to bring in a new centre-back in 2024.
The report from CaughtOffside outlines a few possible options, including Marc Guehi, Goncalo Inacio and Antonio Silva. However, another name keeps coming to the fore; Jean-Clair Todibo.
The 23-year-old Nice centre-back has been deemed the ‘preferred option’ for Man United in regard to a defensive signing.
CaughtOffside add that the player has ‘long been scouted closely’ by the Reds, while it’s widely felt he could leave the Ligue 1 side soon, in search of a new challenge.
In terms of asking price, around £44m should get the job done, though United could face competition from Chelsea for the Frenchman’s signature.
Todibo does feel like an excellent potential signing. He’s a quality player who’d improve the United starting line-up from day one. I do wonder if this interest is being pushed by a certain Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who could soon own 25% of United. His INEOS group currently own Nice…
