Rasmus Hojlund explains what swung the pendulum in Copenhagen’s favour, as Man United were beaten 4-3 last night.
Manchester United’s Champions League qualification dream is now hanging on by a thread. Copenhagen managed to turn things around despite an early 2-0 deficit, winning 4-3 on a forgettable night in Denmark for the Red Devils.
It all started so well. United look sharp, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring two well-worked goals. The Reds were playing confident football, looking in complete control of the game – then, disaster struck.
Marcus Rashford saw red for planting his foot on an opposing player’s leg as he was looking to shield the ball. Whether we like it or not, by the letter of the law, that’s a red card in this day and age. Harsh, yes, but technically, the man in the middle had no choice.
After the game, Hojlund fronted up to the TV cameras and conducted his post-match interview despite obviously being gutted at the result. He explained that it was the sending off that ‘changed the game’, swinging the pendulum in favour of our opponents.
“The red card changed the game.” Hojlund told TNT Sports.
It’s hard to disagree, particularly as Copenhagen then went on to score twice in a matter of minutes before half-time. If the Reds could have kept their advantage going into the interval, things could have been very different…
It’s Hojlund I feel most sorry for. The first time he was given some half-decent service and he still comes out on the losing side. Sadly, it’s just the way our season has gone so far.
Hojlund can still hold his head high after an excellent individual display. he’s always working hard and never letting the side down. We have a real top class player in the form of the Denmark international. Now, we just need to start giving him better help on a game-by-game basis.
