Kobbie Mainoo is still working his way back to full fitness following injury.
Manchester United Football Club have been dealing with major injuries all season long. It hasn’t made Erik ten Hag’s side any easier, particularly when he’s been without some key faces.
One gutting blow was losing Kobbie Mainoo. The young midfielder looked right at home in the Reds’ side during the friendly matches. Losing him for many months was pretty brutal as we were all keen to watch him develop and grow.
Well, over the last few weeks, Mainoo has been stepping up that recovery. He’s yet to make his first senior appearance this year. However, he has been playing at youth levels.
The United star took to Instagram earlier today, posting a positive injury update as he remains on the first-team comeback trail. He played for the club in the UEFA Youth Champions League yesterday, then, adding a photo to his social media, along with the caption ‘getting back up to speed’.
Honestly, he looks too good for youth level already. That’s despite not being fully fit. I do appreciate the fact that Ten Hag doesn’t want to give him too many minutes too quickly, risking further injury by bringing him back too early.
With United struggling for numbers in that defensive-midfield position, there’s a real chance that Mainoo could earn some regular minutes in the not-too-distant future. Casemiro is out for the foreseeable, while Mason Mount isn’t being picked at all.
What’s scary about this young man is how mature he already looks. The guy plays at such a high level despite being so tender in age. For that, he deserves immense credit and I cannot wait to see him back out there.
