Jonny Evans is now set for a multi-week spell on the sidelines after a further injury update.
We’re honestly getting pretty tired of covering Manchester United injury stories at this point. It’s just super deflating for us fans, who just want Erik ten Hag to have a full squad available at his disposal. That hasn’t been the case once this season.
Yesterday, the gaffer gave a vague injury update on Jonny Evans, who hadn’t been fully assessed at the time. He was ruled out of the Luton Town game today, but the true extent was not completely clear.
Now, the club have provided a further injury update on the United player, admitting that he’ll now be sidelined for a ‘few weeks’ after suffering what we now know is a thigh strain.
Evans picked up the issue in the first half of the game against Copenhagen on Wednesday night, with Raphael Varane coming on in place of the veteran. The Frenchman did not cover himself in glory, which is probably why he has been made to sit on the bench in recent weeks.
I had my doubts about Evans’ return, particularly when I wasn’t expecting him to play so many minutes. To his credit, he has done a stellar job alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence. The United squad is infinitely weaker without him, which is a testament to how well he has played.
I guess the small saving grace is the fact that there is now an international break after the Luton game, giving him a couple of weeks of free time to work on his fitness, while it minimises the amount of first-team minutes he will miss out on.
