According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich had a secret summit with Ralf Rangnick over the weekend, which went so well, that the Austrian national team manager is at the top of the club’s coaching wish list:
Bayern officials had a meeting with Ralf Rangnick last weekend, where the content of a potential cooperation was discussed. Since then, the coach has been thinking intensively about the move. Deal could be done this week if all goes to plan. Everything now speaks for Rangnick as the new Bayern coach.
Per Süddeutsche Zeitung (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich might not really have an objective how it wants to play, what its philosophy is, or what its strategic direction is…and it is evident by its top coaching candidates — Rangnick and Xabi Alonso — who each play a different style:
As far as Bayern are concerned, it is at least a remarkable occurrence that Xabi Alonso and Ralf Rangnick were on a list of candidates for the same coaching position, as both have quite different ideas about football. One’s focus is on possession of the ball, another’s on winning the ball: pressing, switching, countering.
It seems as if Bayern are not entirely clear about how they want to play football in the future. On the other hand, Rangnick will of course be aware that he could not command the pure off-the-ball approach at FC Bayern, as he did at RB Leipzig years ago.
The first contact between Bayern and Rangnick took place a few weeks ago. But it was a vague conversation and nothing in detail, that’s why the coach said publicly that he will continue with Austria after the Euros. However, a few days ago, further contact took place – and the idea of a possible collaboration has become concrete. But that doesn’t mean an agreement is certain. Rangnick has not accepted the job yet.
So how about it Bayern Munich fans…would you be happy if Bayern Munich hires Rangnick?
