Author’s note: sorry for the lengthy article. I was travelling last weekend and always think that I will write this article from my hotel room, but never have!
FC Bayern Munich
There are nine players on loan from the first team.
Germany – Bundesliga
There are five players on loan in the German Bundesliga: Alexander Nübel, Franz Krätzig, Paul Wanner, and Armando Sieb.
Alexander Nübel – VfB Stuttgart
Nübel and co. opened their Champions League campaign with a trip to the Bernabéu to face Real Madrid. For a short time, it looked like Stuttgart could have escaped with a point, with the score level at 1-1 as late as the 80th minute. Unfortunately for Nübel and his team, he had two awful errors that led to Madrid’s final goals in the 83rd and 95th minutes.
Stuttgart followed up with a huge win back in league play that following weekend at home against Borussia Dortmund. Nübel was not called on often, but made two saves when needed and only allowed one goal. Stuttgart scored five goals and went onto beat Dortmund 5-1.
Stuttgart traveled to face Wolfsburg this weekend. Nübel did not record a save, but allowed two goals — the second coming just minutes after Stuttgart went down to 10 men. It took until the seventh minute of stoppage time for Stuttgart to equalize and salvage a point on the road.
Franz Krätzig – VfB Stuttgart
Krätzig was on the bench for the Champions League match and the league match against Dortmund, but did not make it onto the pitch in either match. He was not listed on the matchday squad this weekend against Wolfsburg.
Stuttgart plays twice at home this week: first in Champions League against Sparta Prague and then on Sunday against Hoffenheim in Bundesliga play.
Paul Wanner – 1.FC Heidenheim
Wanner started last weekend at home against Freiburg. It was not a great game for Heidenheim, nor Wanner. He only had 33 touches in 71 minutes and was not able to record a shot or create a chance for his teammates to shoot. Heidenheim followed up their loss to Dortmund with 3-0 loss to Freiburg.
Wanner started again this weekend on the road to Mainz. He had one shot from inside the box, which was blocked before it got to goal. He also created a chance for his teammate to shoot. He was not able to influence a goal directly, but Heidenheim was up 1-0 when he left the match in the 70th minute and then added a second late to win 2-0.
Heidenheim will open their Conference League campaign on Thursday at home against Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana. They also host RB Leipzig in league play on Sunday.
Armando Sieb – 1. FSV Mainz 05
Sieb started for Mainz on the road against Augsburg. He got the scoring started with a header from the edge of the six-yard box that beat the keeper. Mainz scored just minutes later with another header, before Augsburg pulled one back ten minutes later in the 25th minute. Ten after that, Mainz went down a man after Amiri received two yellows in two minutes. Sieb was taken off shortly after to make adjustments to the 10-man team. This decision ultimately paid off as Mainz went on to win 3-1 in a match that ended with 10 players each.
Sieb was on the bench for Mainz’s match against Wanner and Heidenheim and came into the match in the 60th minute. His team was once again down a man after a first half red card. He was not able to influence the match in that final 30 minutes and saw his team allow a late goal to fall 2-0 at home.
Gabriel Vidović – 1. FSV Mainz 05
Vidović was not on the matchday squad for either of Mainz’s last two matches.
Mainz will travel to Hamburg on Saturday to face St. Pauli.
Spain – LaLiga
Bryan Zarazoga is the only player on loan to Spain’s LaLiga.
Bryan Zaragoza – CA Osasuna
Zaragoza started for Osasuna last weekend against Las Palmas at home. He had an interesting match, recording three shots — all of which were wildly off-target — no accurate crosses, and just seven completed passes from 21 touches in the 64 minutes he played. Nonetheless, Osasuna was able to win at home 2-1.
Last Tuesday, Osasuna was on the road to Valencia. Zaragoza was on the bench, but came in for the final 13 minutes with the match level at 0-0. He only completed one of two passes and despite three of his nine touches coming from within his opposition’s box, he was unable to record a shot. The match ended in a scoreless draw.
In perhaps the most surprising result in Spain — if not Europe — this weekend, Osasuna hosted league leaders FC Barcelona and handed them their first defeat of the season. Zaragoza followed up two lackluster matches with an all-start performance. In the 18th minute, he provided the assist that opened the scoring. Ten minutes later, he added a goal of his own to make it 2-0. He also received a yellow card for a tactical foul against Yamal before being subbed off in the 77th minute. Osasuna went on to beat Barca 4-2.
Osasuna will travel to take on Getafe on Saturday.
Austria – Bundesliga
Lovro Zvonarek is the only player from the first team on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga.
Lovro Zvonarek – Sturm Graz
Zvonarek was on the bench to start out against Brest in the Sturm Graz’ first Champions League match. He came off the bench in the 60th minute with his team down 2-1. He only misplayed one of his passes and created two chances for his teammates to shoot, but unfortunately they were unable to convert, and Graz fell 2-1.
Sturm Graz followed up that disappointing Champions League result with an awful 3-0 defeat at home to Wolfsberger AC. Zvonarek started and played only the first half, not being able to record a shot or getting anything going in the attack.
Zvonarek was on the bench for Graz’ road match to Austria Wien, but did not make it onto the pitch. From the bench, he saw his team go up two goals in the first half and then down two men in the second half. He also saw a fellow loanee score a goal. The match ended 2-2.
After three games winless, Sturm Graz got back to winning ways with road win against Blau-Weiss Linz. Zvonarek started on the bench again and then came onto the pitch in the 72nd minute, just a minute after his team took a 2-1 lead. Again, he was not able to influence the game much with just 12 touches, no shots, and no chances created. Graz was able to hold the one-goal lead and win 2-1.
Sturm Graz returns to Champions League play on Wednesday with a home match against Club Brugge from Belgium. They will also host perennial powerhouse, Red Bull Salzburg on Sunday.
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Maurice Krattenmacher is the only player from the first team on loan to the 2. Bundesliga.
Maurice Krattenmacher – SSV Ulm 1846
Krattenmacher started for Ulm, on the road to Elversberg, and played 73 minutes. He kinda helped get the scoring going when he won a penalty in the 27th minute. He recorded two shots — both from the edge of the box, both blocked from short range — and created a chance for his teammates to shoot. Ulm went onto win 3-1.
This weekend, Ulm followed up with the same scoreline, but did it against Braunschweig at home. Krattenmacher started and played more than 90 minutes, being subbed off deep into stoppage time. With his team already up 1-0 in the 39th minute, he scored a goal to make it 2-0. This was one of his seven shots on the day. Two were on target, two missed the target, and three were blocked. He also created a chance and for the second match in a row, was taken down in the box and won a penalty, which was scored by a teammate.
Ulm will look to keep the good times rolling with a tough road trip to Köln on Saturday.
Germany – 3. Liga
Gibson Nana Adu is the only player on loan from the first team in the 3. Liga.
Gibson Nana Adu – Unterhaching
Adu was not in the matchday squads for the last three matches. In fact, Adu has yet to make even a bench appearance since being sent back to Unterhaching on loan.
Unterhaching will travel to face SC Verl on Saturday.
FC Bayern Munich II
There are twelve players on loan from the second team.
Germany – 2. Bundesliga
Hyun-ju Lee is the only player from the second team loaned out to the 2. Bundesliga
Hyun-ju Lee – Hannover 96
Lee started for Hannover on the road to Paderborn last weekend and played the full 90 minutes. He had a productive match, but was not able to come away with anything to show from it. He is credited with two big chances missed, perhaps coming off his three close range shots — two of which just missed and one hit the crossbar. He also had a shot from outside the box, which was blocked. He also completed 89% of his passes. Hannover’s lone goal was an own goal from Paderborn, who had two of their own. The opposing goalkeeper had nine saves to give Hannover the close 2-1 defeat.
Lee started and went the full 90 again this weekend, as Hannover hosted Nürnberg. This time he did not have any shot attempts, but also no big chances missed. He completed 92% of his passes — only misplaying two of them. It took Hannover until the 79th minute to open the scoring with a penalty. Just a minute later, they added a second and coasted to a 2-0 win.
Hannover will make the short trip to face local rivals, Eintracht Braunschweig, on Sunday.
Germany – 3. Liga
Max Scholze is the only player from the second team on loan to the 3. Liga
Max Scholze – SC Verl
Scholze was on the bench for a Verl’s 2-1 road loss against Viktoria Köln, but did not make it onto the pitch. After Verl up for over 70 minutes, Köln scored two late stoppage time goals to win. Scholze also started on the bench against league leaders, Dynamo Dresden, but came into this match in the 69th minute, down 3-0. He was unable to change his team’s fortunes and Verl fell at home 3-0. Scholze was back on the bench for the full 90 minutes for a 2-1 defeat at Arminia Bielefeld that included another stoppage time winner.
After four straight losses, SC Verl will look to get back to winning ways against Unterhaching.
Germany – Regionalliga
There are three players Regionalliga teams: Lukas Schneller in Regionalliga Bayern, Luka Parkadge and Robert Deziel Jr in Regionalliga Nordost, and Yousef Qashi and Benedikt Wimmer in Regionalliga West.
Lukas Schneller – Schweinfurt 05
Schneller started in goal for Schweinfurt against SV Wacker Burghausen. He allowed a goal on either side of halftime, but his teammates supported him with three goals to win 3-2. While up 3-2, Schneller received a yellow card for time wasting.
Schneller started again in goal this weekend, this time on the road to SpVgg Ansbach. After a scoreless first half, Schweinfurt found two second half goals and Schneller kept a clean sheet, leading to a 2-0 road win.
Schweinfurt will take on Nürnberg II on Wednesday.
Marko Popovic – Türkgücü München
Popovic started on the bench for Türkgücü last weekend and came into the match as a halftime substitute with his team down 1-0. Both teams added a goal in the second half and it ended 2-1.
Popovic was on the bench again to start the match away to Bayreuth this weekend. He came on in the second half, this time in the 69th minute when his team was already down 4-0. This ended up being the final scoreline.
Türkgücü will have two chances to find their first win this week, as they host TSV Schwaben Augsburg on Thursday before traveling to face SV Wacker Burghausen on Sunday.
Robert Deziel Jr – Altglienicke
Deziel started in Altgienicke’s match against Meuselwitz, but was not able to help his team score, but also helped keep the clean sheet. He was subbed off midway through the second half.
Altglienicke traveled to Leipzig to take on BSG Chemi Leipzig this weekend. Deziel started again, but this time went the full 90. He once again helped keep the clean sheet, but this time Altglienicke put up three goals to walk away with three huge road points.
Luka Parkadge – Altglienicke
Parkadge was on the bench for Altglienicke’s 0-0 draw against ZFC Meuselwitz, but did not make it onto the pitch. He finally made it onto the pitch for the match in Leipzig, but it wasn’t until second half stoppage time with his team already up 3-0.
Altglienicke will host BFC Dynamo on Sunday.
Yousef Qashi – Wupertaler SV
Qashi was on the bench to start against Schalke II last weekend. After an early goal put his team up within eight minutes, Qashi came into the match in the 56th minute with the match at the 1-0 scoreline. Qashi helped his team see out the victory and earn three points at home.
Qashi started for Wupertalker in a thriller against DV Dollinger in the Niederrheinpokal — their local cup competition that allows for qualification for the DFB-Pokal. In just the fourth minute, Wupertaler’s keeper received a red card. It took until the 25th minute to concede, but Wupertaler were down at halftime and Qashi was subbed off. After a second goal ten minutes after the break, things looked bleak. But Wupertaler braved on and found goals in the 83rd and 90th +3 to force extra time, before winning it with a goal in the 112th minute!
Qashi was back on the bench in their return to league play against SV Rödinghausen, but came on as an early sub in the 32nd minute. Unfortunately, Wupertal were already down 1-0 and not much would get better for them. After two second half goals, Wupertal fell 3-0 on the road.
Benedikt Wimmer – Wupertaler SV
Wimmer was not in the matchday squad for Wupertaler’s 1-0 win over Schalke II. He returned to the squad and the starting lineup in the cup game against Solingen. Down a man and with the backup keeper, Wimmer helped the defense keep the game manageable and let his team find a late equalizer and then the eventual winner in extra time.
Wimmer was back on the bench for the league match against Rödinghausen, but did not make it into the match.
Wupertaler SV will host 1. FC Bocholt on Saturday.
Austria – Bundesliga
Matteo Pérez Vinlöf is the only player on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga from the second team.
Matteo Pérez Vinlöf – Austria Wien
Austria Wien started a brutal stretch against the top three teams in the league with a road trip in the Vienna Derby against Rapid Wien. Vinlöf came into match in the 70th minute, but was unable to help his team claw back from a 2-1 scoreline. He only completed three of his attempted passes and did not record a shot nor a chance created. Austria fell to their bitter rivals 2-1.
Vinlöf started against Sturm Graz and played 64 minutes. He received a yellow card in the first half for a bad foul — the first of ten total cards given to both teams in this match. After Graz were up 2-0 at halftime, two of their players were sent off for second yellow cards in within three minutes of each other. Vinlöf got Austria Wien back into the match with a goal in the 60th minute. He was subbed off just four minutes later and saw his team equalize from the bench to claim a 2-2 draw against the league leaders.
Austria Wien was away again this weekend to Red Bull Salzburg. Vinlöf started on the bench and entered the match in the 62nd minute, down 1-0. Unlike the Sturm Graz match, he was unable to help start a comeback. He again was unable to record a shot, nor create a chance for his teammates to shoot. Salzburg added another goal late and won 2-0.
Wien will host Grazer AK on Saturday.
Austria – 2. Liga
Tom Hülsmann is the only player on loan to the Austrian 2. Liga from the second team
Tom Hülsmann – SKN St. Pölten
Hülsmann started for St. Pölten and came up huge in net for them against Voitsberg. He faced nine shots on goal and saved every one of them! His offense did not kick it into gear until a Voitsberg red card in the 66th minute. Within six minutes they scored two goals and cruised to a 2-0 victory on the road.
Hülsmann was once again in goal this weekend, this time at home against SV Stripfing. He kept his second straight clean sheet, this time requiring just three saves. However, his teammates were unable to score on 22 shots taken — even missing a penalty in the seventh minute. The match ended in a scoreless draw.

Netherlands – Kampioen Divisie

FC Den Bosch will host De Graefschap on Friday.
*Fun fact: Telstar plays their home matches at 711 stadium.
Portugal – Liga Portugal
Taichi Fukui is the only player on loan in Liga Portugal.
Taichi Fukui – FC Arouca
Fukui started and played the full 90 minutes for Arouca away to Farense. He was very productive with 60 touches, completing 81% of his passes and creating three chances for his teammates to shoot on four balls into the final third. He also received yellow card for a bad foul in the second half. A goal in the first half of stoppage time was enough to give Arouca the 1-0 road win.
Out on the road again this weekend, Arouca faced FC Porto. Fukui started and went the full 90 once again. This time his passes were even better, as he completed 95% of them, but he did not create any chances, nor did he record a shot of his own. Arouca were holding Porto very well in the first half, but fell apart after a second yellow in the 43rd minute forced them to play down a man for the whole second half. Porto went on to score four second half goals and cruise to a 4-0 defeat. In the last three weeks, Arouco has lost by a combined 7-0 against the two power houses, Sporting and Porto.
Arouco will hope to get back to winning ways when they host AVS Futebol SAD on Saturday.

Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir is the only player on loan in the Frauen-Bundesliga.
Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir – Bayer 04 Leverkusen
Vilhjálmsdóttir stated for Leverkusen on the road against SGS Essen and played 71 minutes. She did not have a shot attempt, not a pass that led to a chance to shoot, but that was not from lack of trying. She had a couple balls into the final third and a cross that no one could make anything out of. Up 2-0, a Leverkusen teammate received a second yellow in the 67th minute. Just minutes after, Vilhjálmsdóttir was taken off to bring in reinforcements. The teams was able to see the game through and earn a 2-0 victory.
Vilhjálmsdóttir started again for Leverkusen this weekend at home against Hoffenheim. This time she was much more active in the attack. Spain – Primera División Femenina
Natalia Padilla is the only player on loan to the Primera División Femenina.
Natalia Padilla – FC Sevilla
Padilla started up top for Sevilla against Barcelona. She was not able to get on the ball much, recording just 17 touches in 77 minutes. She did not have any shots, nor was she able to create any chances in the attack. However she was recorded with four clearances — not exactly the stat line you want your central striker to have. Sevilla did well against the giantesses of Barca, losing just 1-0.
Sevilla got back on track against Valencia. They opened the scoring by forcing an own goal out of the keeper! Padilla started and went almost the distance. She made it 2-0 six minutes into the second half. Late in the second half, after Valencia had pulled one back, Padilla won a penalty and stepped up to take it. She scored the insurance goal to make it 3-1 in the 85th minute, before being subbed off in the 88th. That makes it three goals in just four games so far!
