Former West Ham coach Stuart Pearce had only positive things to say about the Hammers’ summer recruitment when he appeared on talkSPORT yesterday.
Pearce, who was a coach under former manager David Moyes during both of his stints at the London Stadium, was less than complimentary about the club’s failure to offer his colleague a new deal when he appeared on Sam Allardyce’s podcast.
So, one might expect Pearce not to be in the mood to speak positively about West Ham when discussing their summer business. However, speaking to Andy Goldstein, Pearce said: “I think the business they’ve done in the summer and the players they’ve brought in and out have been very good. I’ve got to say, I’ve looked at some of the signings they brought in and thought, ‘That’s supplemented what they’ve already got,’ with the likes of Kudus, Paqueta, and Jarrod Bowen.”
When asked about head coach Julen Lopetegui’s slow start, Pearce continued: “I thought they’ve got a really good squad of players. I think it’s people expecting too much too soon at times. Players coming into the Premier League—it’s not always easy to settle in and that sort of thing, so I’m quite buoyed up by where they are at the moment.”
