One West Ham United star has been slaughtered for his performance whilst away on internatioanl duty with his nation.
West Ham have numerous players currently away with their respective nations on international duty.
For me, this international break has been a painful one. It came at completely the wrong time for the Hammers, after our 4-1 win over Ipswich Town.
Julen Lopetegui would have wanted to immediately build on that victory, given the amount of pressure he’s under right now.
West Ham return to action on Saturday, with a huge Premier League clash with Tottenham scheduled for the 12:30 kick-off.
It is a must not lose game for Lopetegui and his players.
The Hammers need all of our big stars to turn up and be counted. Unfortunately for us though, one of them hasn’t been anywhere near his best so far this season.
West Ham star panned for 4/10 international duty display
Mohammed Kudus has been criticised for his display during Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday.
The result was a shocking one for Ghana, with none of their players managing to get out of second gear for the entire 90 minutes.
Kudus – the new Black Stars captain, couldn’t influence the result int he end, as Sudan ran out as comfortable winners.
And Ghanaian website Pulse gave the Hammers star a 4/10 for his performance. However, they bizarrely praised him, whilst giving him such an awful score:
“The captain of the side, Mohammed Kudus tried to lead by example by creating magic from the first whistle but that wasn’t enough to inspire the team.“
I’m not entirely sure how a player can ‘create magic from the first whistle’, but then be given a 4/10 for his performance.
Either he was incredibly poor or he was desperately trying to make things happen.
One thing that is certain right now is that it’s looking like Kudus’s Ghana will miss out on AFCON for the first time since 2004 – an outcome that would actually be great news for the Hammers.
West Ham need Mohammed Kudus back to his very best, if we are to enjoy a successful 2024/25 campaign on all fronts.
The 24-year-old showed signs against Ipswich 11 days ago that he is nearly at the level he was last season.
However, much more is required from the Ghanaian, and he will know that as well. Hopefully his disappointment with his country will not affect him too much mentally.
