The Niclas Fullkrug deal has been a disastrous one for West Ham United so far.
West Ham signed Niclas Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, for a deal that could be worth up to £27.5 million including incentivised add-ons.
However, things haven’t gone to plan for the 31-year-old at the London Stadium so far, and it has been claimed that the club are already looking at strikers to sign in January.
Fullkrug has only played 137 minutes for the Hammers so far this season, and has failed to register a goal or an assist yet.
The overwhelming consensus at the start was that the Germany international was miles off the pace.
He needed time to adapt to the pace of Premier League football for sure, and his injury certainly didn’t help him regarding that.
Now West Ham have a new problem to worry about with Fullkrug…
West Ham dealt Niclas Fullkrug blow and it’s not his injury
The German must feel incredibly low right now.
After arriving at the London Stadium three months ago, things have gone from bad to worse for him.
According to Claret and Hugh, Fullkrug could play a few minutes off the bench ‘at best’ on Saturday against Tottenham.
That means that he’s over his injury then.
However, we now have another problem with the German. Fulkrug is said to be painfully short of match fitness, due to the injury that has kept him out of action for more than a month.
The signing of the 31-year-old currently looks like it was completely the wrong decision.
The Hammers should have signed Jhon Duran or Samu Omorodion in the summer transfer window, that much is clear.
It’d obviously still very early days for Niclas Fullkrug, and I’m hoping that he will still come good for West Ham, but as things stand, the outlook seems very bleak indeed.
His lack of match fitness will now prevent him from reaching his peak until Christmas time at the earliest in my opinion.
I actually feel very sorry for Fullkrug right now. Let’s hope that he proves everyone wrong.
