West Ham and Arsenal fans won’t believe what former star who played for both Jack Wilshere is about to do as the next step in his career.
Jack Wilshere is remembered very differently at Arsenal and West Ham.
Wilshere grew up supporting West Ham before going on to play for the Gunners and the Hammers.
At Arsenal Wilshere had built a reputation as one of the most naturally gifted midfielders for a generation.
But sadly the midfielder’s spell with West Ham was a major flop as the injury issues which blighted his career held him back.
Things got so bad West Ham ended up paying Wilshere off in order to terminate his contract early.
While he is revered at Arsenal, where he has since coached their Under 18s, many Hammers fans feel differently.
West Ham and Arsenal won’t believe what Wilshere is about to do
Wilshere spoke negatively about West Ham in a series of interviews after leaving the club.
That angered Hammers supporters given the fact they were supposed to be his boyhood club and after he had spent more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.
To make matters worse, Wilshere then publicly stated Declan Rice should leave West Ham for Arsenal before his £105m move.
Since then Wilshere has been trying to become a coach since his early retirement.
West Ham’s Under 18s put a dent in Wilshere’s fledgling coaching career last year.
The Hammers’ Academy side smashed Wilshere’s Arsenal 5-1 at the Emirates to lift the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
A 7,000-strong Claret and Blue Army saw Kevin Keen’s young talents batter Wilshere’s Gunners in a memorable final.
That has clearly not deterred the former England midfielder, though.
Wilshere to join Norwich in as first team coach
Now West Ham and Arsenal fans won’t believe what Wilshere is about to do.
According to The Athletic, Wilshere is about to be named as first team coach at Championship side Norwich.
“Norwich are increasingly confident Wilshere will join them but the move may not be completed in time for this Saturday’s trip to Stoke,” the report states.
“Wilshere is excited by the opportunity of joining Johannes Hoff Thorup’s backroom staff and his relationship with Ben Knapper, Norwich’s sporting director who previously worked as Arsenal’s loans manager until October 2023, has helped the process.”
Wilshere is said to have previously held talks with MLS side Colorado Rapids about becoming their head coach this time last year.
But the former Hammers flop ultimately remained with Arsenal.
Now Norwich are said to be confident of giving him his first senior coaching role in football.
The Canaries sit seventh in the Championship having won four, drawn three and lost two of their opening nine league games.
Thorup, 35, joined as head coach on a three-year deal in the summer after Norwich lost to Leeds United in the play-off semi-finals last season and subsequently parted company with David Wagner.
After leaving West Ham Wilshere claimed he was not injured as often as the club made out.
“I was fit, I was training, but for whatever reason, it just didn’t work out. It was frustrating and difficult.”
He parted ways with West Ham after agreeing to terminate his contract early, having only made 19 appearances over two seasons, picking up nearly £10m in wages.
