Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten worked together to bring some fantastic players to West Ham United in the summer.
However, it wasn’t all sunshine and roses.
Tim Steidten identified Luis Guilherme as an exciting young prospect for Julen Lopetegui‘s side, and the West Ham board are said to be confused by the decision to bring the Brazilian to the club.
Niclas Fullkrug is another player who is causing disagreements behind the scenes at West Ham.
However, there was another deal the Hammers transfer team conducted back in the summer that has raised a lot of questions.
And Lopetegui and Steidten are now both feeling the wrath of the frustrated Hammers fans.
Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten under pressure after transfer call
The heat is really on for Lopetegui now, and indeed Steidten.
Things have started poorly on the pitch for the Hammers this season, but many are now suggesting that our form has been a by-product of poor player recruitment in the summer.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Lopetegui and Steidten are being questioned for overseeing one transfer in particular.
James Ward-Prowse joined Nottingham Forest on a season-long loan back in the summer.
That decision has been criticised by the Mail though…
“The decision to let James Ward-Prowse, a seasoned Premier League campaigner, join Nottingham Forest another questionable transfer decision.“
Of course, Ward-Prowse is actually still a player who is owned by West Ham, after we didn’t include either a purchase obligation or an option into the deal that took him to Forest.
It will be interesting to see if the Hammers welcome him back into the squad in the summer of 2025.
However, I’m not sure he’s good enough for us, given the ambitious plans we have as a club.
The 11-capped England international possesses an exceptional delivery, but his overall game is nowhere near Premier League level, in my opinion.
I think West Ham should be looking to sell James Ward-Prowse in the summer, and then Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten can work together to bring in a central midfielder with real pace and power.
