Gary Neville was not impressed with West Ham United one little bit, during our 2-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday.
It was a tough day at the office for West Ham, especially during the first-half, but we got the all important three points at the London Stadium in the end.
In spite of that, Gary Neville didn’t have great things to say about Julen Lopetegui‘s side.
Neville doesn’t always nail it when it comes to his opinions on the Hammers – he thought Niclas Fullkrug was a good signing after all!
However, he is well-renowned for his usually on-point takes on the game today.
Whilst Lopetegui was given his flowers by numerous pundits and fans alike yesterday, Neville refused to go along with the crowd.
And he told it how he saw it.
Lopetegui reality check as Gary Neville delivers West Ham verdict
The Hammers players have got to improve their levels if we are to enjoy a successful 2024/25 campaign.
There are too many of them who are coasting right now, and not performing anywhere near their best.
Maybe that was the reason why we were so bad inside the first 45 minutes against Man United.
Neville certainly wasn’t impressed to say the least.
When speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast (27 October), the most famous pundit in England responded when asked what he thought of the performance from the Hammers.
And he only needed one word…
Neville said, “Poor.“
I have to say, I agree with Neville, because in fairness to him, he only watched the first-half due to his commentary duties on the Arsenal vs Liverpool clash.
However, had Gary Neville watched the second-half, I’m sure his opinion of West Ham United’s overall performance would have changed.
Lopetegui made three big half-time changes, and the Hammers were a different team after the break.
I personally think we deserved the three points in the end after our second-half performance.
But Gary Neville was right in a way, West Ham’s performance in the first-half was poor, and that’s being kind to Lopetegui’s side!
