West Ham United have essentially enabled Manchester United to appoint the perfect manager to replace Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United parted ways with Erik ten Hag after the Dutchman oversaw a 2-1 defeat to West Ham at the London Stadium on Sunday.
The 54-year-old left Man United on Monday after two-and-a-half years in charge at Old Trafford.
West Ham weren’t actually very good, and I have to say we were very lucky to win the game in the end – Gary Neville described our performance as ‘poor’.
In fairness to Ten Hag, his team actually played quite well on Sunday, and they could have been out of sight at half-time.
Sacking the Dutchman after one of their better performances was a strange move, but I have no sympathy for them.
The Man United owners didn’t have the guts to sack Ten Hag after he won the FA Cup in May, despite the fact that it was clear to see he wasn’t the man needed to take them forward.
They let him spend a load more money on very average players, and now they’re probably another year behind in the rebuilding process.
However, it now seems like Manchester United are finally on the right track with the next manager they are eyeing up.
West Ham send ideal manager to Manchester United after Erik ten Hag sacking
So with the Dutchman now gone, Man United are eyeing up an incredibly exciting appointment.
According to BBC Sport, Manchester United are in talks to bring Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford to replace Ten Hag.
The 39-year-old is one of the most exciting young managers in world football, and he would actually be perfect for Man United.
How frustrating is it that we could have had him in the summer though! The Portuguese was the man who most Hammers fans wanted to replace Moyes.
Back in April, it was claimed that we had opened talks with the Sporting CP manager.
Amorim flew over from London to hold a meeting with the Hammers owners – one that didn’t go very well apparently – and he returned to Sporting with his tail between his legs.
He then apologised to the Sporting fans for meeting with West Ham officials midway through a title race.
I feel like we really messed that one up. The West Ham owners clearly didn’t want to meet his €10 million (£8.34 million) release clause.
And now Manchester United will clearly meet that release clause with ease, and what an appointment Amorim will be for the Red Devils.
He likes his team to dominate the ball, but insists on a quick tempo.
His Sporting side have averaged 65.1% of the ball in the Primeira Liga this season – 4.2% more than Benfica – the team with the second most possession (Fbref).
Amorim is very flexible tactically, both before games and during them, and has a vast array of systems that he uses.
He is incredibly intense, and that shows with his passion and energetic behaviour on the touchline.
Manchester United appointing Ruben Amorim after sacking Erik ten Hag was all down to West Ham’s 2-1 win over them on Sunday.
And it’s irony in its finest that the Portuguese should have been at the London Stadium just a few months ago.
