Alexander Sorloth scored 23 league goals in 34 appearances for Villarreal last season and was very much on West Ham’s radar. He joined Atletico Madrid in early August for €32m and has scored three league goals in eleven, with two assists.
The Norwegian has had a mixed career and is no stranger to the Premier league having appeared sixteen times for Crystal Palace back in 2018-2020 where he failed to register a league goal for the Eagles.
Ukraine international Artem Dovbyk is another striker who was linked to the Hammers. The 27 year old scored 24 goals in 36 for Girona before securing a move to Roma in the summer for €38m. So far this season he has scored 3 in 9 appearances, with one assist.
Tammy Abraham was a strong link, his injury record has overshadowed his career, and a ACL injury restricted him to just twelve appearances and one goal for Roma last season. AC Milan stole a march on West Ham when the player signed a season long loan for the Italian giants. So far he has had mixed fortunes with one goal and one assist in seven appearances.
The last name on this list is Serhou Guirassy who ripped up the Bundesliga last season at VFB Stuttgart, 28 goals in 28 appearances, with an exit clause of €18m. The much sought-after striker eventually joined Borussia Dortmund and has scored 7 goals in 10 appearances, along with 2 assists.
So bizarrely outside of Guirassy it could be suggested that none of our previous striker targets have set the world alight so far at their new clubs.
A senior club source has made it clear that West Ham will need to sell before they can buy during the January transfer window, so there are limited options for West Ham. The most obvious choice would be to have more faith in Danny Ings, who needs to be more utilised before he departs in the summer. We can also live in hope that Fullkrug recovers, regains his fitness and gives Lopetgeui some selection head aches.
