Joshua Kimmich has been a marathon man for Bayern Munich this season, playing every single minute of each game. After being named as the new captain for Germany in September, Kimmich has been a stalwart force in the midfield for both club and country.
Last season, Kimmich played the least amount of minutes in his career since the 2016/17 campaign when he was stuck behind Philipp Lahm. This season, Kimmich looks reinvigorated as a leader and distributor.
“Joshua plays every minute because he deserves it, not because of his name,” said Kompany (via @iMiaSanMia). “He works hard in training as well as in the games. It’s not only about talent, it’s about the heart you show and your work-rate. That’s part of being on the top level. Joshua is a player who radiates that.”
Kimmich’s contract expires in the summer, which means he can start negotiating with any club in January. Bayern’s front office is working tirelessly to secure his services for the coming years, but there are no guarantees in this business.
For now, Kimmich is content to leave it all on the pitch and let everything else take care of itself off the pitch.
