A European football expert believes West Ham are the unnamed club preparing a bid for a player who is absolutely tearing it up in Germany.
With a German technical director in charge of West Ham’s transfers it should not surprise anyone that the club is looking to the Bundesliga for signings.
Tim Steidten brought Konstantinos Mavropanos over from Stuttgart in his first summer at West Ham last year.
Steidten then returned to his home country to sign striker Niclas Fullkrug from Dortmund this summer.
Some reading between the lines think the Hammers technical director may want to go back to Germany for a manager soon too as links persist to former West Ham assistant Edin Terzic.
Despite spending £155m on nine new signings in the summer, West Ham have been woeful so far this season.
Steidten said he sees West Ham as a five-year project.
Expert thinks West Ham behind move for Bundesliga’s best player
Now it’s easy to see why as there’s clearly plenty more work to do done.
The Hammers were widely regard to have ‘won the transfer window’. As yet there’s little evidence of that on the pitch or in results.
West Ham now officially have the oldest squad in the Premier League.
So Steidten will be looking to bring that down in the coming windows.
Especially after pledging to rebuild the east Londoners around young, exciting players.
It is looking as though West Ham are going to have to make a sale to raise funds to continue the rebuild.
Already it is being widely accepted that Mohammed Kudus will be sold given he has an £85m release clause active next summer.
It has been reported Arsenal want Kudus and there’s nothing West Ham can do to stop it.
Lucas Paqueta’s future is also in serious doubt. If he is found guilty of the charges against him he’ll likely be banned for life. If cleared West Ham want to sell him at the first opportunity.
It means there will be a serious talent void to fill at the London Stadium.
Romano’s Marmoush claim ‘stinks of West Ham bid’ says expert
Now a European football expert thinks West Ham are behind planned bid for the Bundesliga’s best player.
Last month it was reported West Ham are one of the clubs who want to sign Omar Marmoush.
The Egyptian, dubbed ‘the new Mohamed Salah’, is said to be a player West Ham have been tracking since Steidten’s arrival last year.
West Ham were reportedly one of several clubs who had scouts watching Marmoush as he scored two and laid on an assist in Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-3 draw against European giants Bayern Munich last month.
It was even recently claimed that Marmoush is ‘likely to join West Ham’ in January.
The 25-year-old can play across the forward line – including as a striker.
And Steidten has made it clear West Ham want versatile players who can play in multiple positions.
Over the weekend Fabrizio Romano stated Marmoush is ‘one to watch on the market in 2025 as several top clubs are monitoring him’.
The talented attacker has 12 goals and nine assists already in 14 games for Eintracht Frankfurt this season.
He is officially, statistically the best player in the Bundesliga this season with an average match rating of 8.35/10 and four man of the match awards.
That puts him above the likes of Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala and Michael Olise.
Journalist and European football expert Henry Hill has been an analyst on Football Daily, Sky Sports and now JOE.
He believes a move for Marmoush has West Ham written all over it.
“Absolutely stinks of a West Ham bid,” Hill said in response to Romano on X.
It certainly makes sense given the expected departure of Kudus next summer and West Ham’s need for a younger forward option.
Let’s hope Hill is right.
Because Marmoush really would help transform West Ham.
And goodness knows they need it.
