Benfica coach Bruno Lage has his squad ready to take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
“We expect a tough opponent (Wednesday), a very competent team, but I also think they see us in the same way,” said Lage (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Regardless of the number of points every team has, it will be a very interesting and competitive game, with both teams looking at their opponent and seeing how difficult it is.”
Lage said he was happy that Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha had kind words to say about Benfica’s progress under him.
“It’s always good to be recognised by our opponents. When I look at João’s career, I see a player of enormous quality. I know perfectly well that when you’re a midfielder you see the game in a different way. I’m sure that the way he read our team is largely due to the way he can read the game. We hope to play a good game against João’s team (Wednesday). That’s what we’re thinking about,” said Lage.
In addition to Lage, former Heidenheim player Jan-Niklas Beste hit the podium during the presser.
“I’m happy to be back here and looking forward to (Wednesday)’s game,” said Beste. “I think every game is difficult in its own way. We have a lot of quality in our team and we’re all looking forward to (Wednesday). Bayern play a different football to the Portuguese teams. We know that. We talked as a team.”
