Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s visit to the San Siro on Wednesday, Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi gave the latest on Alessandro Bastoni’s fitness.
The centre-back limped off against Venezia on Sunday, and Inzaghi confirms that the player isn’t at 100% fitness. But the expectation is that he’ll play against Arsenal.
“If Bastoni recovers tomorrow, he plays, but today he wasn’t 100%,” Inzaghi said. “He was a bit fatigued and told me he’ll be there tomorrow, but I have to make evaluations because on Sunday he came off with cramps at the 74th minute.
“As a coach, together with the staff, we’ll analyse the data to assess if Bastoni can play.”
FCInterNews reported over the last few days that Bastoni hadn’t suffered any serious problem, simply struggling with cramp during the game.
In another boost for Inter, Hakan Calhanoglu made his return from injury on schedule on Sunday. As predicted, Calhanoglu made a 20-minute substitute appearance against Venezia, and he’s right on track to face the Gunners.
Reports claim Calhanoglu should now be fit to return to the starting lineup against Arsenal.
Left-back Carlos Augusto is the one player who seems set to miss the Arsenal clash, having been out for the last few games with a muscular problem.
Augusto had only started one league game for Inter this season anyway, but he did play every minute of their Champions League campaign before his injury on Matchday 3, including the full 90 against Manchester City.
In Augusto’s absence, Federico Dimarco will likely start on the left against Arsenal.
