A week is a long time at West Ham United just now. Two weeks is an absolute age. From the images shown at the last home game, Tim Steidten was walking the turf, glad-handing the opposition manager and high- fiving the players in the tunnel. Earlier in the season he was even taking TV interviews before matches.
Next thing he is rumoured to be off to Arsenal – as per Matt’s piece yesterday – what is going on?
Is this another case of the rumour factory deciding to link Steidten with Arsenal simply owing to the departure of their own Sporting Director, Edu, who is off to Nottingham Forest? ( Doesn’t that seem a strange move..Arsenal to – Nottingham Forest?)
As Matt mentioned yesterday in his article, we contacted our high-ranking source inside the club to ask whether there was any truth in this story of Tim Steidten wanting an exit from London Stadium.
To be clear, I had expected the rumour to be rubbished and a reply along the lines of ‘We saw him yesterday at the club, nothing to worry about. Just another made-up story’ or something along those lines.
Tim Steidten, after all, had joined West Ham as part of this five year project and as part of his job description had been given overall control by David Sullivan.
What we got was nothing like that: “We don’t know, just heard rumours‘ – which rings massive alarm bells.
Obviously, then, Tim Steidten isn’t around himself to speak to in person. At this crisis time with head coach Lopetegui embarking on his ‘must win’ game against Everton tomorrow, the Technical Director is conspicuous by his absence. You’d really hope to have Chairman, Technical Director, Head Coach all working together, switched on and doing all they could to see the club through it’s current predicament.
Let’s be clear what’s happening here: The head coaches’ boss and overall head of football at our club is nowhere to be seen.
No wonder the club is facing a drama. Sounds like it could well become a crisis.
Is this the ‘sneaky weasel’ at it again?
