Bayern Munich has drawn Bayer Leverkusen in the third round of the DFB-Pokal — an early-tournament tilt between two of the Bundesliga’s top teams. And that means another contest between striker Victor Boniface, one of the Bundesliga’s forces to be reckoned with, and the defenders who have given him the most problems.
Because even irresistible force meets immovable object — and Boniface named Bayern Munich’s current center-back duo, Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae, among his top three of challenging defenders to go up against.
The third name was interesting, too.
“Upamecano is there. Jonathan Tah was also there, but now we’re teammates. And also Kim,” Boniface said in October (in comments captured by Soccernet.ng, via @iMiaSanMia).
So apart from two of Bayern’s current defenders there is the big name Bayern went for but could not nab in this summer’s transfer window. Can Bayern collect ‘em all? More importantly — who will prevail in this next bout between Boniface and Die Werkself, and Vincent Kompany’s preferred Bayern defensive stalwarts?
