All the talk around West Ham United right now is revolving around whether Julen Lopetegui will still be our head coach when Premier League action resumes.
Julen Lopetegui is a dead man walking right now at West Ham as far as I’m concerned, after a terrible start to the 2024/25 season.
David Sullivan is said to be very unhappy with Lopetegui right now, and the Spaniard’s days at the London Stadium could well be numbered.
The Hammers head coach has badly underperformed so far, especially considering how much money he spent on new players in the summer.
I personally feel like he should be sacked, especially given the amount of top quality free agent managers available right now.
There is one man in particular who seems to have been forgotten, but every single football fan will be very familiar indeed with him.
The perfect manager to replace Julen Lopetegui at West Ham
I strongly feel that most Hammers fans are done with Lopetegui now.
It’s all well and good giving new managers time to bed in their footballing philosophy, but only when it’s clear to see what they’re trying to do.
That’s the main problem with Lopetegui right now – his team lacks any kind of identity and he seems to be bereft of ideas of how to turn things around.
I believe that the Spaniard should be sacked after the Newcastle and Arsenal games, if we fail to win either, then the new manager coming in will have a really kind fixture list lying ahead of him.
And I believe the perfect man for the job is Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The 48-year-old has just left his post as caretaker manager of Manchester United, and the fact he guided them to three wins and a draw in four games says a lot about him as a gaffer!
His spell in charge of PSV Eindhoven was an incredibly successful one as well.
He guided PSV to the KNVB Cup in 2023, and achieved a 64.7% win ratio during his tenure at Philips Stadion.
Van Nistelrooy has perfect philosophy for West Ham
Van Nistelrooy had his team playing some fantastic football, and always insisted on his players pressing aggressively high up the pitch.
He always tried to get his players to create overloads in wide areas, and high energy performances were non-negotiable.
The 48-year-old bagged 95 Premier League goals for Manchester United (Transfermarkt), so he’s clearly well aware of what’s needed to succeed at the highest level of the English game.
The Dutchman has the perfect amount of experience in football management to come into the London Stadium and really take us on to another level now.
Crucially, he’s a free agent at the moment, and we all know how important that is for David Sullivan.
If the West Ham co-owner decides to sack Julen Lopetegui, I think he could do a lot worse than replacing him with Ruud van Nistelrooy.
It should actually be a no-brainer for Sullivan, as far as I’m concerned, and if we don’t snap him up, another club will.
