According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Paul Wanner’s future at Bayern Munich could be on the wing — whether he likes it or not.
However, for Wanner to stick around, the club will likely need to convince him by selling off at least one of the trio of Leroy Sané, Serge Gnabry, and Kingsley Coman:
Paul Wanner could return to Bayern next summer and be part of the squad if one of Sané/Coman/Gnabry is sold and no high-profile player such as Florian Wirtz or Xavi Simons is signed. Clubs like Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig are showing interest in Wanner, but Bayern have him on their plans. Even though he’s not a classic winger and prefers to operate centrally, Wanner – who earns just around €2m per year – would help the club save big wages in comparison to the wing trio.
Wanner has the physical traits and skill-set to play wing if he wants to. Given his creativity and nose for goal, that could be a very enticing option for the Bavarians.
