Jonathan Tah’s attempted transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Bayern Munich was one of the longest running transfer sagas of the summer. Negotiations dragged the entire summer long, but neither side were able to agree on a deal before the transfer window slammed shut.
One of the agents from the agency representing Tah is Pini Zahavi, who Bayern have had a long history with, having struggled to renew the contracts of star players such as David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski before their moves to Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, respectively. This time, however, Zahavi finds no fault in the Bavarian giants’ negotiations, instead pinning the blame on the reigning Bundesliga champions:
“We tried to transfer Tah last summer. Unfortunately, Leverkusen asked for too much money. The idea was to go to Bayern, the club really wanted to get him. We would have liked to bring Leverkusen a transfer fee. Now they will not get any money,” Zahavi simply summed up, via @iMiaSanMia. “In my opinion, that was a mistake. Now the situation is very simple: Jonathan will go to a big club next summer. And Bayern still have a very good chance of getting him.”
In less than two months at the time of writing, Tah is allowed to speak with any club to leave on a Bosman. Bayern may reignite their pursuit of the 28-year-old then.
