When this international break ends we’ll be less than 6 weeks away from the January transfer window opening, and one can already feel an uptick in the number of intensity of rumours we’re hearing reported.
While we’re sure the chatter about players coming in is going to arrive before long, the focus right now is on the players who have been kicking their heels since the summer after missing late chances to move away. Those players are the most desperate to sort a move right at the start of January, and accordingly they’re the ones were hearing most about now.
Along with the likes of Ben Chilwell, who we heard a few links about yesterday, there’s also the dreadful waste of the talents of Carney Chukwuemeka on our bench. Many Chelsea midfielders would argue he should be in the team, let alone the squad, but the decision has been made by someone at the club that he’s not a player who is part of our future.
Premier League strugglers to try their luck with Chukwuemeka bid
Well, regardless of how you feel about that decision, the reality is that it’s been clear since the summer that Carney is on the way out. The question has just been finding him a destination. Today at last we hear some potential moves mentioned – TeamTalk claim that Ipswich have joined the queue to sign the 21 year old talent.
Chelsea will apparently accept a deal “some way below the £40m target” they set for Chukwuemeka last summer – so bit by bit we could be approaching a deal from somewhere. Given we paid just £20m for him, that would still represent a big profit on the deal.
The other question is what the player will make of a move down to a side that looks at high risk of relegation.
