Bayern Munich’s front office has been tasked with thwarting Real Madrid from swooping in to steal Alphonso Davies on a free transfer next summer. The saga has seen its fair share of contentious sound bites, but Davies’ hot start to the Vincent Kompany era appeared to squash the rumors.
On Friday, Relevo dropped a bombshell story that Davies has already agreed to terms with Real Madrid, making the next six weeks a formality. Nedal Huoseh, Davies’ agent, immediately responded to the report.
“This is not true,” said Huoseh (via @iMiaSanMia). “Though [Davies] has many options, we have not agreed terms with any club. Bayern could also be an option. Any reports suggesting otherwise are incorrect.”
It’s not an outright rejection of the notion that Davies will choose Real Madrid, but the swiftness of Huoseh’s rebuke suggests that Davies’ camp is in full control of the decision making process and will not be swayed by the media.
On the other hand, this could also be a negotiating tactic by Huoseh to drive up the contract price in a bidding war between Bayern and Real Madrid.
