Former Bayern Munich and Germany great Lothar Matthäus thinks that Julian Brandt can have the same impact for Borussia Dortmund that Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz have at their respective clubs.
“Development has to arrive somewhere at some point and I expect this development from him personally,” said Matthäus (as captured by Sport1). “I like it when he wears the armband and then, like Schlotterbeck, takes on more responsibility in these moments. However, due to his talent and his long tenure at the club, I expect this in four out of five games and not every fifth game.
“Brandt has to be for BVB what (Florian) Wirtz is for Leverkusen or (Jamal) Musiala is for FC Bayern.”
As for who Borussia Dortmund will have to have in its crosshairs, Matthäus noted that Bayern Munich is “far more stable than that of Leverkusen” and that the Bavarians “dominated every game except for the defeat in Mainz.” However, the all-time great also noted that Bayer Leverkusen has “found their stability again in the last few weeks” and are “back within striking distance.”
