We know you are all here for the latest Bayern Munich news, but allow us to digress for a bit for a special holiday message in this Schmankerl.
I personally would like to thank all of the talented writers and award-winning podcasters that help keep this site running from day-to-day. We are striving to be the best Bayern Munich-related site in the world and this staff works extremely hard to help us get to that goal.
I’d also like to thank you — the BFW community — for supporting us and being the absolute biggest reason this site is fun to come to every day. Even when we disagree, it’s civil (for the most part!).
Whatever you celebrate — and even if you don’t celebrate anything at all — enjoy this time, stick with BFW, and just know you are appreciated.
Last summer, Dani Olmo added some luster to his star and some cash to his bank account by starring for Spain at the EURO 2024 competition after a very strong campaign for RB Leipzig.
At the time, Olmo was closely linked to Bayern Munich, but opted to go home to Spain. That move, however, has not worked out as planned as FC Barcelona cannot find a way (as of yet) to get him registered. Because of that, Olmo could be available in January and Bayern Munich could be in the mix with Arsenal FC and Manchester City:
Arsenal are monitoring Dani Olmo with Barcelona unsure whether they will be able to register the attacking midfielder for the second half of the season. The Euro 2024 winner, 26, joined Barca from Red Bull Leipzig in a £52million deal this past summer after starring for Spain in Germany. But his future at the Nou Camp is already in doubt.
With Barcelona’s financial issues already well documented, it’s emerged that Olmo has only been registered with La Liga until December 31 – and there are fears he will not be able to feature for Hansi Flick’s side beyond that date.
Reports in Spain claim that could pave the way for Olmo to leave the club on a free agent due to a contract clause which which would kick in if he cannot be registered. It’s said both Arsenal and Manchester City are keeping an eye on the situation, as are Bayern Munich. Olmo has five goals to his name this term in 10 league appearances.
The Winterpause allows us some time to reflect on the good, the bad, and the ugly from the first half of the season.
In this three-part series for Bavarian Podcast Works, we will breakdown each position group — Attack, Midfield, Defense — discuss each player and provide rating for how we feel they have played so far this season.
Chuck and Samrin break down the attacking group. Here is some of what the duo discussed on the show:
- A breakdown of each attacker, what they did well, where they are lacking, and how they rated overall.
- Is this the end for Thomas Müller — and if so, what should he do next? MLS? Stay in Germany?
- Why Jamal Musiala has been one of the great players for Bayern Munich — and in the world — this season.
- Harry Kane was really good, but what could he change to take his game to the next level.
Well, that didn’t take long. Arthur Vermeeren’s loan from Atlético Madrid to RB Leipzig became a permanent move as he reached the games played threshold to trigger the purchase clause:
RB Leipzig will now have to make midfielder Arthur Vermeeren’s loan move from Atlético Madrid permanent for a fee of over €20m now that he’s played 20 games for the Bundesliga club.
Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane, Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, and Dayot Upamecano are part of the contingent making up WhoScored.com’s Bundesliga Team of the Season So Far:

Earlier this season, it was rumored that Bayern Munich would use the winter transfer window to try and unload some veteran players who the club considered to be overpaid.
It looks like that still might happen per CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen (though it probably will not be easy).
“We just have to find ways that are ultimately ideal for all sides,” Dreesen told Tz (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško is building quite the reputation and Chelsea FC might want to make him the next big gun for its attacking arsenal:
Chelsea are making the first moves to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, reports TEAMTalk. The 21-year-old striker has scored 10 goals in 22 games in all competitions this season, including three in the Champions League despite Leipzig’s dismal performance. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who is on loan at Galatasaray, are also being considered but there is no firm interest in Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic.
Here we go…it is time for the Winterpause and things are looking good for Bayern Munich. After downing RB Leipzig 5-1, the Bavarians seem in control of the Bundesliga at the moment, but it will not be easy to complete the job of securing the league crown.
Given everything that has happened over the past six months, there is a lot to talk about, so let’s get to it. This is what we have on tap for this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
- Bayern Munich finished off the first half of the season on a strong note, but Bayer Leverkusen’s 5-1 win over SC Freiburg let the world know that the reigning champs are not done just yet. Are we set up for an epic battle for the Bundesliga crown?
- Bayern Munich’s biggest surprises of the first half.
- Bayern Munich’s biggest disappointments of the first half.
- Where Bayern Munich can be better in the second half of the season.
- Can Bayern Munich win the Champions League as currently set up?
