It is easy to forget the crippling uncertainty England’s decision to withdraw from the European Union, nicknamed Brexit, caused. It also, in fact, played a big role in Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala’s decision to move to Germany from England, as the former Chelsea FC youth player feared the uncertainty of it all:
“As a family, we didn’t know back then in England what significance Brexit would have for us,” Musiala admitted when asked about Brexit’s impact on that life altering decision, via @iMiaSanMia. “That’s why it had a big influence on our decision to return to Germany.”
Musiala was, of course, born in Stuttgart, Germany, but spent the majority of his adolescent life in England. So when Brexit drove Musiala out of England and to Germany, was he leaving his home or returning to it? Asked which country he sees as his home, Musiala took a rather…philosophical approach to it: “Home is where my family is. I have a lot of friends in Munich, even outside of football, with whom I can have fun, we like to chill out together,” Musiala states, via @iMiaSanMia. “I can enjoy the city. I feel comfortable in Munich.”
