Wantaway Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli has been linked with a switch to Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive concerns were exposed further at the weekend in the 6-3 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League.
Spurs have become light at the back following injury setbacks to Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies, leaving Ange Postecoglou with no other option but to deploy teenager Archie Gray—a central midfielder by trade—alongside Radu Dragusin in central defence.
As a result, the Lilywhites are expected to bolster their defensive unit in the forthcoming January transfer window. While the squad desperately needs some depth at the back, the chiefs at the Hotspur Way are also seemingly considering midfield reinforcements.

Tottenham have been subject to links with Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli in recent weeks. The Turin giants have offered the Italian to Spurs ahead of the mid-season training period. However, according to an exclusive report from GIVEMESPORT, Ange Postecoglou is not giving the ‘green light’ for the North London club to move ahead with the deal.
Nicolo Fagioli has not enjoyed a lot of opportunities to express himself under new boss Thiago Motta this season. Of 14 Serie A games, the 23-year-old has started just five and wants to embark on a fresh challenge to get his career back on track. Juventus are mindful of his situation and are ready to sanction the central midfielder’s exit next month.
Tottenham are in the market for midfield reinforcements, with the likes of Yves Bissouma and James Maddison blowing hot and cold. Rodrigo Bentancur completed his domestic seven-game ban against Liverpool on Sunday and will now be available to face Nottingham Forest on Boxing Day, but the North Londoners are planning to loan out teenage prodigy Lucas Bergvall during the winter window.
Thus, it is understandable why the chiefs at the Hotspur Way are contemplating signing a midfielder as they aim to challenge for the Champions League spots. But Postecoglou and other influential figures at the club remain against acquiring the services of Fagioli.

The aforementioned report adds the Italy international has made London his next destination if he decides to head to the Premier League for the first time in his career, fuelling Spurs’ hopes of landing him if they decide to table a bid before the winter window’s February 3 deadline.

Juventus are prepared to consider a deal in the ballpark of £20million, while they have also not refused to accept a bid that falls below their asking price as it would allow them to move their academy graduate off their books. However, as things stand, Big Ange doesn’t seem too keen on the prospect of bringing in Fagioli to North London.
Perhaps, the Australian tactician wants to add a different profile of a midfielder to his ranks.
