Tottenham Hotspur have had a difficult start to the 2024/25 season, and their faltering performances have left huge pressure mounting on their Australian head coach, Ange Postecoglou, with the North Londoners far from their season objectives of potentially finishing in the top four.
In what was already a highly pressured team, things turned from bad to worse at the weekend when Liverpool put six (6) past Fraser Foster in the Premier League, and the game against the Reds gave the supporters and chiefs in charge a glimpse of the gap between the league leaders and Spurs. In the aftermath of the game, it also left huge question marks on the Australian head coach’s future at White Hart Lane, given the fact that Spurs sit 11th in the league table with eight (8) losses of 17 games played in the English top flight this season.
Mick Brown speaks on potential Postecoglou sack claim
And the North Londoners are under intense pressure to change the head coach, with it being a topic of debate among many supporters at White Hart Lane. However, former scout Mick Brown has claimed that the former Celtic manager is not under immediate threat of being shown the door at Hotspur Way.
Brown claims that while the Lilywhites chairman Daniel Levy has a history of “pulling the trigger to take the pressure off himself,” according to the club’s former scout. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Mick said:
“The chairman there, when the pressure come on, tends to pull the trigger. He takes the pressure off of himself by sacking the manager and diverting the attention. I don’t think Postecoglou has done himself any favours by insisting on playing the way they do.
“He doesn’t seem to have convincing answers to some of the problems they have struggled with ever since he took over there. People have started asking questions of him, and he’s not giving the answers they’re looking for.
“From what I understand, he’s not in any imminent danger of being sacked. They’ve got the nucleus of being a very decent side, and I accept they’ve got injury problems at the moment, but they’ve got to help themselves and adapt.
“They’ll back him in January and see if they can strengthen the squad, especially because of the injuries they’ve picked up. But if things continue as they are, you can’t be surprised if a decision is made.“

Despite the pressure mounting on Postecoglou, Brown believes that his former employers will give the Australian time to try and resolve the ongoing problems, particularly with January window likely to come in to address the current problems in the squad. But the situation could change fast if the Lilywhites keep up the current form. Many could argue that Postecoglou’s philosophy requires time to perfect but that’s a luxury only few managers in the Premier League are afforded.
