Jarrod Bowen scored West Ham United’s winner against Southampton on Boxing Day, after a helping hand from under-fire Niclas Fullkrug.
Julen Lopetegui would have breathed a big sigh of relief when the final whistle went at St Mary’s.
West Ham earned a vital three points against Southampton, and we have Jarrod Bowen to thank for that…maybe Niclas Fullkrug as well.
The Germany international joined the Hammers from Borussia Dortmund in the summer for a fee that could reach £27.5 million.
However, he has failed to hit the heights that were expected of him.
That said, the Achilles injury he suffered back in September seriously hindered his progress.
Regardless of that injury though, he hasn’t looked anywhere near the levels needed to succeed in the Premier League.
And it has been claimed that West Ham are trying to shift him on to Juventus.
I actually wouldn’t have a problem with the Hammers selling the 31-year-old striker in the January transfer window.
However, I feel like all of the rumours suggesting that he is unhappy in East London could well be wide of the mark.
What Niclas Fullkrug did after Jarrod Bowen’s goal
The big German has received some really harsh criticism this season, but a lot of it has been fair in my opinion.
Fullkrug is reportedly not enjoying life at the London Stadium one little bit, and he apparently wants to leave in January.
The 31-year-old is clearly struggling to get to grips with the pace and intensity of Premier League football.
It wouldn’t surprise me one little bit if he moved on from the club this winter.
However, I thought his reaction after Jarrod Bowen’s goal against Southampton was very interesting indeed.
After the ball hit the back of the net at St Mary’s, Fullkrug ran over to the West Ham fans and celebrated with unadulterated passion.

That proves to me one very simple thing, and that is that Niclas Fullkrug is all in on West Ham.
You cannot fake that reaction – the goal clearly meant the world to him, despite the fact that it was scored by one of his teammates.
Whilst I don’t rate Fullkrug personally, I think it’s our duty as fans to all get behind him, and offer him unwavering support.
His record during his time with Dortmund proves that he’s not a bad striker.
I just want to see the goals start to flow for him now.
Niclas Fullkrug’s reaction after Jarrod Bowen scored for West Ham against Southampton proves to me that he is more than happy in East London.
