West Ham United are all set to play host to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday evening.
Liverpool are flying high right now and are riding the Arne Slot wave, whilst Julen Lopetegui has struggled to get his West Ham revolution off the ground.
That said, the Hammers have improved over the past few weeks, after taking eight points from our last four Premier League games, and Lopetegui’s job is said to be safe for now.
Liverpool have been ripping teams apart recently – the last time they were in London they beat Tottenham 6-3!
So in order to get anything from the game, every single West Ham player will need to be on top form.
A draw would be a great result for the Hammers.
It’s unlikely we will take anything from the match, but the latest news will certainly worry the Liverpool fans.
Liverpool will be having nightmares ahead of West Ham Premier League clash
Whilst Liverpool are red-hot favourites to win the game at the London Stadium, they will be slightly concerned after an official announcement was made.
The Premier League have announced via their official website that Darren England will be the lead VAR official for Sunday’s clash at the London Stadium.
England was involved in Luis Diaz’s incorrectly disallowed goal during Liverpool’s defeat to Tottenham in September 2023.
The 39-year-old was on VAR duty for the game. As Diaz’s strike was being looked at by the VAR officials, England believed that the goal was given, so he responded simply with ‘check complete’.
However, the perfectly fine goal was adjudged to have been offside by the linesman, so England should have changed the decision, rather than confirm the on-field call.
He realised he messed up immediately, but it was too late to change his original decision as the game had carried on.
Liverpool fans were unsurprisingly fuming with Darren England and the Premier League, and now the 39-year-old will be involved in one of their games for the first time since that infamous incident 15 months ago.
West Ham are being written off as huge underdogs already for the clash with Liverpool, but Reds fans won’t be comfortable at all after the Premier League’s announcement about who will be officiating the game.
