Tottenham weighing up move for Udinese defender Thomas Kristensen
Tottenham Hotspur have run into a defensive injury curse this season, with first-choice centre-back duo Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero spending months on the sidelines. Ben Davies has also dealt with fitness issues, leading to teenager Archie Gray—a summer signing from Leeds United—filling in at centre-back alongside Radu Dragusin.
The chiefs at the Hotspur Way will be eager to use the winter transfer window to get the Lilywhites’ season back on track after sliding down to 11th place in the Premier League table. Ange Postecoglou’s side have shipped in 28 goals in 19 Premier League fixtures, and the absences of Romero, Van de Ven and Davies have significantly hurt them.
As a result, Spurs are scouring the market for defensive reinforcements to pump some life back into the squad. According to an exclusive report from Football Insider, Tottenham have joined Leicester City and Bayer Leverkusen in the transfer race to sign Udinese centre-back Thomas Kristensen.
-> Boost for Tottenham as Serie A giants are open to January transfer deal
Thomas Kristensen joined Udinese from Aarhus in 2023, signing a five-year contract. He had a decent first season in Serie A, racking up 26 appearances. However, the towering Dane has endured an injury-hit 2024/25 campaign, limiting him to just seven league appearances thus far.
Tottenham’s interest in the 22-year-old stems from a trip to Italy to watch the centre-back in action in Serie A against Fiorentina before Christmas. Kristensen put in a stellar display in defence as Udinese defeated Fiorentina 2-1 on their travels.
The aforementioned report adds that Udinese value the defender at £16.5million and they could be ‘tempted’ by an offer of that value. Tottenham have to fend off competition from Bayer Leverkusen and Leicester City to bring Kristensen to North London as their defensive injury crisis worsened following Destiny Udogie’s hamstring injury against Wolves last weekend.
