Tottenham Hotspur wide forward Bryan Gil has been subject to links with a permanent exit from White Hart Lane following his performances for Girona in the Spanish top tier.
Gil had been struggling to make a case for himself donning the Spurs badge and had struggled to find his feet following his highly anticipated move to North London from Sevilla in a £21.6 million transfer, with Erik Lamela moving the other way as part of the deal in what was tagged as a bargain deal in 2021.
What followed was a series of loan transfers without any upturn of form, and the North Londoners were forced to consider an exit after he couldn’t rejuvenate his time at White Hart Lane under Ange Postecoglou.
However, Gil has found his potential at Girona, who are “seriously considering” taking up their option to bring the silky winger to Estadi Montilivi in a permanent deal for a fee of £12.4 million.
Wenham thinks otherwise on Gil transfer
Despite the reports of the deal to be made permanent, John Wenham, owner of the reputed Spurs podcast Lilywhites Rose, insists that any decision about a permanent exit will be pushed to the summer.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Tottenham News, Wenham said:
“Girona has Gil on loan; he is playing regularly, and he is contributing.
“He even got himself back into the Spain squad. Therefore, it would make no sense for them to sign him permanently now. Personally, I don’t see that happening until the summer.
“Girona knows they’ve got an option to sign him before Tottenham can agree to a deal with another club. Therefore, as long as they utilise that option, they know that he will sign for them, no matter how well he plays between now and the end of the season.
“They might even sign him and then sell him on for a profit; who knows? However, from their point of view, it makes sense to wait until the end of the season.”
With the performances he has been putting in playing under Michel Sanchez, everything leads to a permanent transfer; however, now it remains to be seen if that happens in the ongoing winter transfer window or if it’ll be pushed to summer (as Wenham suggests).
