Tottenham new signing Antonin Kinsky is eligible to face Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final
Tottenham Hotspur have extended their support to boss Ange Postecoglou by becoming one of the few Premier League clubs to make a signing this month by wrapping up a move for goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The Lilywhites have been in the market for a new goalkeeper given the long-term injury to No.1 Guglielmo Vicario, who is unlikely to return until late February. Fraser Forster, Vicario’s deputy, did well initially with notable displays against Fulham, Bournemouth and Rangers but made catastrophic mistakes in the 4-3 Carabao Cup win over Manchester United last month.
With Forster contracting a sickness bug last week, Ange Postecoglou had to hand Brandon Austin his Tottenham debut in the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday. This just demonstrated the need for a long-term keeper who can take up the reins at N17.

Thus, Spurs acted quickly and completed the signing of Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague in a €16million deal last weekend, beating the likes of Newcastle United, Brighton and Hove Albion, Brentford and Celtic in the process.
The glovesman from the Czech Republic is itching to make his debut for the North London club as soon as possible and there would be no better test than to don our badge against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday. The 21-year-old also received his work permit on Monday, meaning he is eligible to face Arne Slot’s Liverpool.
Postecoglou faced the media on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the exciting double-legged semi-final tie vs the Reds. When asked whether Kinsky is ready to start the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, the Australian tactician stated (h/t Football London):
“We will see. He arrived on Sunday I think. He has had a couple of days of training. He is registered and eligible to play. We still have got to do a couple final things with him and then we will see.”
When Vicario got injured in mid-November, Big Ange and Spurs had the opportunity to jump into the free transfer market and bring in a goalkeeper. However, the 59-year-old tactician decided to stick with Forster in the interim and when the winter window opened, he pushed the club to accelerate Kinsky’s acquisition.

“He is one that we had earmarked for the end of the season to bring in during the summer. We’ve tracked him all season and he is definitely someone we are really excited about. Obviously, with our current goalkeeping situation – we explored the possibility of bringing him in this January,” Big Ange added.
“It wasn’t easy because he is doing very well for his club, his club is doing well, they are in Europe and top of their league. The club worked really hard to get the deal done in this window and it is a huge benefit to us and adds real quality to our goalkeepers.”

Spurs beating a host of clubs to Kinsky’s signature tells one how highly rated he is across the continent. The youngster has a great chance to prove his worth and establish himself in the first team this season itself, as Vicario is not expected to return from ankle surgery until late February.
If Big Ange thinks the Czech Republic shot-stopper is ready for the daunting test against Liverpool, he must repay his boss’ faith by producing a memorable display.
