With the January transfer window well underway, Tottenham have begun reinforcing their ranks as they look to resuscitate their season, to which end they have already signed Czech goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Now, they’re being offered the chance to get a big-name player on the other end of the pitch.
Dušan Vlahović offered to Tottenham, Man United, and Chelsea
As reported by TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur, alongside Premier League rivals Man United and Chelsea, have been offered the chance to sign Dušan Vlahović by his current club, Juventus.
The Serbia international is his third full season with the Old Lady, and while his numbers have not been abysmal since his arrival from Fiorentina three years ago, he has not yet lived up to the billing his near-€80m move suggested when he left Florence.
The 24-year-old now has 18 months remaining on his contract, and it looks unlikely he’d extend, with Juve also keen on looking at an alternative for Thiago Motta, who prefers a more unconventional operator in the number nine slot—something he succeeded with at Bologna with Joshua Zirkzee and has tried at Juve with Kenan Yıldız.
Motta’s history with Zirkzee is of particular interest here. United are one of the clubs to whom Vlahović has been offered, and both the Red Devils and Zirkzee, who joined them only this summer, look keen on already parting ways after the Dutchman has struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford. A reunion with Motta at Juve has already been mooted, making a Zirkzee-Vlahović swap deal possible.
€65 million is the fee Juve are looking for in order to let Vlahović go this month. The price is unlikely to come down in this transfer window, but that can change if he remains in Turin come next summer.
During his time at the Allianz Stadium, Vlahović has 53 goals and 11 assists in 124 appearances across all competitions. This season, he remains the Bianconeri‘s top scorer with 12 goals in 23 games.
TTLB Opinion
In short, Tottenham do not need another striker.
The Lilywhites brought Dominic Solanke to Hotspur Way last summer in a record deal, and despite their topsy-turvy fortunes their new marksman has delivered decent numbers in his opening six months in North London.
In the coming weeks, we may even see Spurs part ways with Ange Postecoglou, and even if that were to not happen, they need reinforcements in the defence and midfield more desperately than the front line, which they can afford to leave as it is for the remainder of this season.
