Pep Guardiola raised eyebrows at the weekend when he publicly criticised Jack Grealish‘s form, claiming he wished the winger was still playing like he did in the Treble season of 2022-23.
In fact, Grealish has failed to score across 19 appearances in all competitions this season, while he has netted just three Premier League goals since the start of 2023-24.
‘I want the Jack that won the Treble,’ Guardiola said. ‘But I try to be honest with myself for that. I know that he can do it because I saw him. I saw his level and I want that, every single training session and every single game.’
The comments from Guardiola – which came after City’s 4-1 win over West Ham – also saw the Spaniard challenge the 29-year-old, who was signed for £100million in 2021, to fight to regain his place, with Savinho preferred in recent weeks.
And, speaking in the latest episode of It’s All Kicking Off!, co-hosts Chris Sutton and Ian Ladyman discussed the issue of Grealish’s form, along with Guardiola’s comments and what they could mean for the Englishman’s future.
