West Ham United take on Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round tonight, and Graham Potter has selected his first XI in charge of the club.
Aston Villa will obviously represent a real challenge for West Ham tonight, but the players should be well up for the FA Cup clash, with Graham Potter now in the dug-out.
Julen Lopetegui was sacked from his post at West Ham after overseeing an awful first half of the season.
Potter is expected to take the Hammers to the next level, but he’ll be under no illusions as to the size of the task lying ahead of him.
Lopetegui fell out with numerous different West Ham players, and Potter’s first port of call will be restoring the low team morale back to what it once was.
A win up at Villa Park would be the ideal way for Potter to start his Hammers tenure.
So how has he gone about setting up his team for the game tonight?
Graham Potter’s West Ham starting XI for Aston Villa FA Cup clash
The Hammers fans want to see a fully committed performance from the boys tonight, regardless of the lineup.
Here’s how Potter has lined up, as confirmed via the club’s official X account:
Lucas Fabianski, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Max Kilman, Ollie Scarles, Edson Alvarez, Tomas Soucek, Lucas Paqueta, Crysencio Summerville, Mohammed Kudus, Niclas Fullkrug
That’s a solid lineup – one that is more than capable of causing big problems for Aston Villa.
If the Hammers players put in a big performance tonight, it will be a great way for Potter to begin his time in charge at the London Stadium.
However, it will also show that they completely downed tools under Lopetegui and that’s never a good look in my opinion.
Nevertheless, tonight will be the start of a bright new future for the Hammers, I’m convinced of it.
As long as the fans, and more importantly the board, are patient with Potter, I’m sure that real success will be lying in wait.
The West Ham starting XI selected by Graham Potter is a strong one, and I truly believe we can give Aston Villa a really strong match in the FA Cup tonight.
I fancy a nice little 2-1 win, COYI X
