Arsenal midfielder Jorginho has reportedly been offered to Palmeiras and he’s considering a January move, but there haven’t been any club-to-club talks yet.
Vinicius Nicoletti of ESPN in Brazil reported earlier this week that Jorginho has been offered to Palmeiras, and that the midfielder is considering leaving Arsenal this month.
Nicoletti claimed that Palmeiras has met with Jorginho’s agent for talks, but they haven’t made an offer yet.
But on the other side of things, the Italian international also hasn’t received an offer from Arsenal to extend his contract. So the situation remains open.
ESPN’s senior writer in England, James Olley, reports that Jorginho’s agent has indeed held exploratory talks with Palmeiras, with the agent assessing the player’s potential options. But they were only preliminary conversations.
Olley added that sources suggest Jorginho is only likely to be offered a one-year extension at Arsenal, if anything, and he’d prefer a longer contract.
Back in Brazil, Globo Esporte confirm that no negotiations are ongoing with either Jorginho himself or Arsenal, with Palmeiras still deciding whether to move forward. Their attempts to sign Andreas Pereira from Fulham are taking priority.
Jorginho has made 17 appearances for Arsenal this season, including nine starts. He’s generally only made the lineup in the League Cup, or when a regular starter has needed a rest in the Premier League. He’s yet to make a start in the Champions League in 2024/25.
With his contract expiring this summer, Jorginho could sign a pre-contract with a foreign club now for a July transfer.
It doesn’t seem like he’s close to such a deal, but Arsenal will need to keep an eye on how things are progressing if they hope to keep the player around beyond this summer.
