Archie Gray has been one of the rare bright sparks for Tottenham in an otherwise disappointing season
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to be active in the ongoing January transfer window. They would want to add their defensive unit, having already signed a young goalkeeper in Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.
Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven and Ben Davies have all been on the treatment table for some time now, and Ange Postecoglou is making plans with technical director Johan Lange to overcome a defensive crisis by taking advantage of the winter transfer window.
Due to an injury crisis at the back, summer signing Archie Gray has been forced to fill in at centre-back. A central midfielder by trade, he starred at right-back for Leeds United in the Championship last season before earning a move to Spurs last summer.

The teenager, signed in a £30million deal from Leeds United in the summer, has performed admirably well in an unfamiliar position. He hasn’t looked out of place playing in central defence in recent weeks, showing his composure on the ball and reading of the game. Not only that, Archie Gray has excelled at right-back, left-back and central midfield, rightfully drawing praise for his performances from fans and certain sections of the media.
However, his performances in a Tottenham shirt have not gone unnoticed. According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid have set their sights on the Spurs starlet and would be willing to table a €50million offer this month.
The England under-21 international has been one of the rare bright spots in an otherwise torrid campaign for the North London side. He has made 24 appearances across all competitions, including five consecutive starts in the Premier League of late. The teenage prodigy has been showing maturity, leadership and versatility for Big Ange’s side, and the ability to control things in midfield coupled with his performances in central defence have piqued Real Madrid’s interest.
The aforementioned report adds that the European champions are determined to bring Gray to the Santiago Bernabeu “at all costs”. Los Blancos are looking to sign young and talented prospects from across the continent, and Gray is one player they admire very much.

One of the hottest English talents, Gray’s growing importance at Spurs should not surprise anyone. For a young player who has exceeded the expectations of White Hart Lane faithful on his debut season and stepped up to become one of Big Ange’s main men in defence in the midst of an injury crisis, there is no way Tottenham accept such an offer from Real Madrid for Gray.

Moreover, the highly-rated versatile Englishman, whose stock continues to rise, has a contract at the club until 2030 (Transfermarkt), which further puts Spurs in a strong negotiating position if Madrid indeed decides to table a proposal in this transfer window.
