Fabrizio Romano has had a quiet few months on the Chelsea front, but he’s now really able to get his teeth into the January window as the club get into gear.
There are a number of players the club have put up for sale, and a number that other clubs are interested in which they will also consider letting go of – for the right price.
In this case, it’s the former. Carney Chukwuemeka has quite clearly been available since the summer, and Romano’s latest update claims that they’ve opened up their demands from a permanent transfer only to allow loans too.
🚨🔵 Understand Chelsea have opened doors to Carney Chukwuemeka’s exit this month on loan deal!
Expected to be a paid loan with salary covered and NO buy option clause.

There are two main possibilities on the table according to the insider – one is a move to Borussia Dortmund, who are “pushing” and “in active talks” about a loan for the midfielder. Given just a couple of years ago he was one of the hottest prospects in Europe, there should be no surprise that there’s interest.
Then there’s the emergency measure – sending him to our sister club Strasbourg for the rest of the season. That would likely be seen as less favourable because it would require us bringing back one of the three players we already have there on loan.
Chelsea change stance as lack of interest makes sale hard
Chelsea want to sell Chukwuemeka, but clearly none of the offers they’ve had in the last 9 months have been up to their minimum demands. This change of tactic will see the talented £20m signing head out and hopefully prove he’s worth what we want for him by playing regularly.
We have great faith in Carney’s ability if he’s given the chance – sending him to Strasbourg and recalling either Caleb Wiley or Andrey Santos to provide first team cover might not be the worst idea.
