West Ham United are clearly prioritising the signing of a new striker in the January transfer window.
Graham Potter has a really tough task on his hands, if he is to oversee some genuine progress at West Ham during the second-half of the season.
The January transfer window will be crucial to his hopes of doing just that, and Marcus Rashford is someone who’s said to be on the Hammers radar.
A move to sign the Manchester United forward just doesn’t seem to be realistic at all to me though.
And the West Ham owners seem to be casting their net far and wide in the search for alternative attacking options.
Potter’s successful spell in the charge of Brighton was undermined in the end by his failure to bring a proven goalscorer to the club.
And he will be determined not to allow history to repeat itself at West Ham.
According to a report from L’Equipe, West Ham have contacted Marseille about bringing Elye Wahi to the London Stadium this month.
It is claimed that West Ham are trying to sign the young Frenchman on a loan deal with an obligation to buy him in the summer for £21 million.
The Hammers tried to sign Wahi in the summer, but he joined Marseille instead in the end.
I think he actually possesses the skillset we need.
He has scored 35 Ligue 1 goals since the start of the 2020/21 season, with his best tally coming in the 2022/23 season when he bagged 19 in 33 outings (Transfermarkt).
Described as a ‘phenomenal’ talent by Ligue 1’s official website, Wahi would be a stunning signing for West Ham.
He possesses blistering pace, and would offer us a completely different option through the middle, what with his ability to run in behind.
Getting Elye Wahi through the door on loan with an obligation to buy him in the summer would be an exceptional move from West Ham.
He’s only 22 and is still fairly raw, but the potential he has is frightening.
£21 million for Wahi’s signature would be great business for West Ham, and we simply have to get this one done in the January window.
