Benjamin Sesko had intended to finish the season with RB Leipzig, but that position could change for the right offer, with Arsenal still interested.
James McNicholas reports for The Athletic that Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig remains of interest to Arsenal in the January transfer window, and now may be the time for the Gunners to make a concerted effort.
McNicholas writes that Sesko’s intention has been to finish the season with Leipzig, but adds that the right proposition from the right club could see that position shift.
David Ornstein confirms to NBC Sports that Sesko is a long-term target of Arsenal’s, but adds that the striker is “unlikely” to move in January. Though the reporter adds “never say never”, he suggests a summer transfer is more probable.
Ben Jacobs reported earlier this week that Arsenal retain a strong interest in Sesko, and that the striker was sold on the Gunners project last summer. At the time, he simply felt his best short-term option was to remain in Leipzig, but perhaps the situation could be different now.
Sesko has scored 12 goals for Leipzig this season, and he’s on a run of four goals in four league games after his screamer at the weekend.
Leipzig are having a mixed season, sitting fourth in the Bundesliga but 34th in the Champions League’s League Phase with zero points from six games. With two matches to play, they’ve already been eliminated from the competition.
Perhaps that could help to sway Sesko’s thinking, with Arsenal effectively assured of a spot in the Champions League knockout stages. The only real motivation to remain in Germany is for the club’s DFB Pokal quarter-final and to help them in the top-four race.
