Southampton are closing in on appointing their new sporting director following Jason Wilcox’s departure for Manchester United.
Mail Sport understands Johannes Spors, who was linked with the Newcastle sporting director’s role in the summer, is among those who have been seriously considered for the leading role with the St Mary’s side.
Wilcox left Southampton to take up the role as technical director at Old Trafford in April and the process of replacing the now United exec has been ongoing.
The pursuit is understood to be drawing to a close with the Premier League side hopeful of making an appointment soon.
Spors, who is the global sporting director for the 777 Group – who have stakes in Genoa, Sevilla, Standard Liege and Vasco De Gama – is among the candidates to have been considered.
Sources have indicated that he is among the leading candidates for the role.
