Ange Postecoglou has come under pressure after Tottenham’s run of poor Premier League results
Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 to local rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening to record their 11th loss in the Premier League this season.
Ange Postecoglou was critical of his team’s performance in the North London derby, while skipper Son Heung-min called out Spurs’ poor discipline at the Emirates Stadium. The Lilywhites were just second best in every department, lacking the hunger, desire and fight to win the North London derby bragging rights.
On Thursday evening, they slipped to 14th in the table after Manchester United won 3-1 at home to Southampton, leaving them only eight points above the relegation zone after 21 games. Qualification for European football is drifting away with every single fixture, with only the bottom three having lost more games this season than the North Londoners.
The Greek-Australian tactician said back in September that “he always wins things in the second year”. Thus, it is easy to see why the second leg against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final next month will be crucial to determine his future at White Hart Lane. Nonetheless, just one win in the last nine Premier League games is simply not good enough for any manager in world football, let alone Ange Postecoglou.

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp warned Postecoglou that he is under pressure to turn things around at the club, with chairman Daniel Levy won’t be standing failure of missing out on Champions League football for the second year running.
“Listen we have, they [Spurs] have had injuries they’ve had injuries you know at the back, but if we’re truthful they were getting beaten early in the season by teams like you know going to Palace. And Palace hadn’t won a game when Spurs went there and got beaten up. I think most of the big hitters would have played then at the back you know,” Harry Redknapp said on talkSPORT while dissecting Spurs’ performance vs Arsenal and addressing Big Ange’s future along with Alan Brazil and Gabby Agbonlahor.
“They’ve had defeats all through really this year that have you know they’ve never really got in a run where you thought yeah they’ve got a chance of being in that top of the Champions League or anywhere near it.
“This year it’s been a disappointing season and Ange will know that he is a sensible guy, he knows what he’s got to do better and it’s up to him. Now he’s got to pull a squad together he needs you know get people on side, make them feel you know heyy listen come on we’ve got to do something here you know.”
Tottenham have not performed as per their standards for large parts of the season. Their current form is concerning and things are just not working under Big Ange, even if they recently beat Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The North London club’s upcoming fixtures across all competitions include Everton, Hoffenheim, Leicester City, IF Elfsborg and Brentford. A trip to Goodison Park to face Everton on Sunday will certainly not be an easy game, especially after the return of David Moyes in the dugout. It is an extremely crucial fixture for Big Ange and anything but a win would leave him under severe pressure.

Europa League games against Hoffenheim and IF Elfsborg should be tricky as well, and Tottenham must win those to grab one of the automatic knockout spots. Leicester City are battling relegation and that appears to be winnable on paper, but Brentford away at the start of next month should make our lives difficult and chances of getting a positive result remain slim.
