West Ham United are chasing the signing of a Premier League striker in the January transfer window.
Graham Potter cannot afford to exit the January window without having brought a new striker to West Ham.
Potter has already made it clear that he wants to strengthen his ranks at the London Stadium this month.
West Ham have a real dearth of centre-forward options right now.
Michail Antonio, Niclas Fullkrug and Jarrod Bowen are all out with long-term injuries.
And if Potter is to have any chance of succeeding at West Ham, he needs to bring in a proper striker in the January window.
One man in particular seems to be in the crosshairs of the Hammers boss.
West Ham could sign striker on loan in the January window
If Potter fails to sign a top-class striker this month, the second half of the season will be a really challenging one for us.
And it seems like the Hammers head coach has someone very specific in mind for the job.
According to a report from The Express, the Hammers could sign Evan Ferguson on loan from Brighton late on in the January window.
West Ham have been heavily linked with signing the Brighton striker already this month, but the injury problems he’s currently going through seemed to end any talk of that move happening.
Once valued at a whopping £100 million (ESPN), Ferguson seems to have regressed over the past 12 months.
However, he’s still got so much potential, and if we can pick him up on a loan deal this month, I’d be keen for it to happen.
However, it will be vital for us to include an option to buy clause into the deal.
We can’t afford to have another Jesse Lingard situation on our hands!
Ferguson is an absolute powerhouse. He’s strong in the air and possesses impressive pace for a big man.
The Republic of Ireland international is a very good finisher as well, in spite of his poor recent goalscoring record.
His tally of 16 goals scored during the 2022/23 season for Brighton proves that he has top-class ability in front of goal.
Hopefully Evan Ferguson is fit enough to make the move to West Ham in the January window – I think he could be really good for us.
