Manchester City still risk losing Kevin De Bruyne as no progress has been made on a contract renewal, the star has revealed.
The Belgian’s contract expires this summer and he is free to talk to foreign clubs about joining them on a pre-contract agreement.
City have tied down Pep Guardiola and Erling Haaland to new deals in recent weeks and are keen to secure the future of their midfield maestro who joined in 2015.
They may have to compete with the alluring riches of Saudi Arabian clubs, who have previously signalled interest in tempting De Bruyne under the guise of an incredible salary hike.
Asked for a contract update, he told reporters: ‘I’ve not spoken to them for the moment.
‘I wanted to get better, I’m doing better, so I’m happy. We’ll see, something will happen.’

Erling Haaland recently renewed his deal until 2034 and Guardiola hopes that could persuade De Bruyne to stay
Last week Haaland renewed his contract until 2034 with a whopping base salary of £500,000 per week.
Mail Sport revealed that, including weekly bonuses, the nine-and-a-half-year deal takes him closer to £1m per week than his current £865,000-a-week haul.
De Bruyne added: ‘I don’t think wherever I go I’ll get a 10-year contract anyway, so I don’t need to stress!’
But Pep Guardiola hopes that Haaland’s glittering new deal – tying down who they believe to be the best striker in world football – can persuade De Bruyne to carry on at the Etihad.
‘Of course it can happen (the pair continuing playing together),’ he said last week.
‘Kevin is in improved physical condition. He knows that. He says he feels better.
‘He has been struggling a lot five years and made an effort this season, playing when he was not at his top.
‘There is no player at that age, even younger, that can not play without niggles. But some problems more difficult to handle than the other ones.
De Bruyne has looked back to something resembling his best form after an injury-hit 2023-24
‘Kevin has struggled a lot and made incredible work ethic. I saw him working very well to come back and being the best. And of course, having that special quality that is unique in the world.’
De Bruyne is back to something resembling his best after an injury-hit 2023-24 campaign and served up a vintage assist for Phil Foden against Brentford recently.
With captain Kyle Walker in talks with AC Milan to leave, it would be a coup for the club to persuade 33-year-old De Bruyne to stay when he’s tempted by finishing his career in America or Saudi Arabia.
On Sunday they clambered back into the top four with a 6-0 demolition of Ipswich Town to boost their hopes of retaining Champions League football, which is often a factor in players’ decisions.
