West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has so much work to do at the London Stadium.
After being tasked with clearing up the mess left behind by Julen Lopetegui, Graham Potter made an instant impact at West Ham during his first game in charge away at Aston Villa.
However, the last two performances against Fulham and Crystal Palace respectively were really poor.
The Hammers were lucky to beat Fulham, and we got exactly what we deserved against Palace.
The London Stadium was like a Ghost town on Saturday, due to the passive nature of the West Ham players’ performance.
Potter will be under no illusions now at just how difficult the job he has taken on will be.
The 49-year-old has already highlighted the need for new signings at the London Stadium.
Some new additions at West Ham look like an absolute necessity now, if they didn’t already.
Graham Potter West Ham transfer claim is genuinely frightening
The Hammers face a vitally important 11 days ahead.
If Potter is to have any chance whatsoever of succeeding at the London Stadium, he needs to bring in two players at the very least, preferably three.
West Ham are crying out for the signings of a new striker, a powerful central midfielder and an accomplished centre-back.
However, are our hopes of bringing any of those types of player in realistic in any way whatsoever?
It doesn’t seem that way unfortunately.
According to the Guardian’s Jacaob Steinberg, Potter ‘did not sound optimistic about his chances of signing a new centre-back this month’, when speaking about potential January incomings.
Wow, that’s a real concern.
The Hammers are incredibly weak in central defence right now, with Max Kilman currently our only fit centre-back.
Jean-Clair Todibo is still out with a calf injury and Konstantinos Mavropanos is banned for our upcoming clash with Aston Villa.
Kaelan Casey is now in line to make his first senior start in the Premier League for the Hammers.
As good as Casey undoubtedly is, if the Hammers board are not concerned about Potter being forced into giving a 20-year-old centre-back his first Premier League start, then there’s something seriously wrong.
Farcical West Ham January window now a possibility
Casey is a real talent, and he quite clearly has huge potential.
However, if Potter is forced into playing him for the next few weeks, it could prove costly for our faint hopes of making a late push for the European spots.
Central defence is a department where experience is key in the Premier League, and Casey obviously has none of that.
I’m not even suggesting that the Hammers just need to sign a centre-back purely because of Todibo’s injury and Mavropanos’s suspension.
I actually think Casey is more well-equipped than the Greek centre-back to succeed at the very highest level of the game.
Even without injury and suspension concerns, Graham Potter would have had to strengthen his centre-back ranks at West Ham in the January transfer window in my opinion.
Judging by Steinberg’s frightening claim though, this window could yield more disappointment than excitement unfortunately.
