Arsenal goalkeeper Tommy Setford was involved with the matchday squad against Aston Villa after recovering from injury, and he’s now likely to make the bench for the Gunners on Wednesday.
18-year-old Arsenal goalkeeper Tommy Setford was out of action in early January due to a muscle injury, with reports suggesting he could be out for a few weeks.
The good news is that Setford has already been spotted back in action, helping the first team in the warm-up ahead of Saturday’s game against Aston Villa.
Arsenal Japan shared a video of the goalkeeper taking part in the warm-up, before taking a seat behind the bench for the match.
The club generally take a third-choice senior goalkeeper to every game, but there’s not enough space to name them on the bench for the Premier League fixtures.
It’s a different story in the Champions League, with the expanded list of substitutes in the competition. Now that he’s fit, Setford has a good chance of being included on the bench against GNK Dinamo on Wednesday.
Setford’s injury allowed Jack Porter to make the bench for Arsenal’s League Cup semi-final first leg against Newcastle United, but his return means he’s a strong candidate for the bench at St. James’ Park.
Arsenal backup goalkeeper Neto featured in Bournemouth’s 1-0 defeat to West Ham United in the second round of the competition, so he can’t play for the Gunners in the League Cup this season.
