Bayern Munich midfield dynamo, Leon Goretzka delivered a fabulous performance in the weekend against VfL Wolfsburg. Goretzka’s penetrating runs and exertive use of his physicality to be a goalscoring threat were on display. His brace in the 3-2 result was crucial to the victory. Leon’s tenacity to persevere amidst uncertainty and his footballing skills were appreciated by his captain and teammate.
Fellow midfielder Konrad Laimer was appreciative of Leon’s work ethic and the importance he brings to the squad. Per @iMiaSanmMia, Laimer said, “I’ve always known how good of a footballer Leon is. He’s always worked hard despite his difficult situation, that speaks for his character. We know he can always help the team and we’ve seen it in the last games. It’s always nice when you can reward yourself with goals.”
Leon is one of the players whose contract will be expiring in 2026. While not an immediate issue unlike the case of Kimmich and Davies, Bayern’s uncertainty in his role and plans with the club have left much to speculation. Gone are the days of pre-emptive contract renewals under former Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge who would often renew the core players’ contracts two years prior to expiration, thus providing a sense of continuity for all parties involved.
Captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer gave his view regarding the future of Leon Goretzka at Bayern. While he was not specific, Neuer underscored the fact that the performances on the pitch speak the loudest (Bild via @iMiaSanMia). He said “If he continues to play like this, of course nothing speaks against that”.
